APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunizations for Pediatric Patients


Pharmacy-Based Immunizations for Pediatric Patients is a two-hour, application-based learning activity created in partnership with Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This program provides a thorough review of topics related to immunizing pediatric patients including parent and patient preparation, immunization administration techniques for children and documentation of pediatric vaccinations.  Please email hsopce@auburn.edu with any questions regarding this course.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to: 

  • List common vaccines indicated for the pediatric population. ​
  • Review CDC’s pediatric vaccination schedule including its utility and importance. ​
  • Identify common concerns of parents who are vaccine resistant and propose effective strategies to overcome their resistance. ​
  • Demonstrate correct injection techniques for pediatric immunization including comforting techniques, injection site, needle size, and length. ​
  • Discuss effective management strategies for vaccine adverse events. ​
  • Review best practices for documenting the provision of pediatric vaccines. ​
  • Identify the most current and reliable immunization resources for immunizing the pediatric population.
