Recorded Medicare and Medicaid: Understanding Assistance Programs for Older Adults

This presentation will describe the basics of Medicare and Medicaid, financial assistance programs for older adults, and how to protect older adults from Medicare fraud.

Target Audience

This knowledge-based program is intended for Pharmacists (ACPE) and Pharmacy Technicians (ACPE).

Lindsey Hohmann, Pharm.D., Ph.D., joined the Harrison College of Pharmacy as an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice on October 1, 2019.

In her role, she will promote clinical and translational science research within the school. Dr. Hohmann’s research interests include implementation science and mixed methods, substance misuse prevention, and implementation of innovations in community-based healthcare organizations. After earning a bachelor’s degree in cell and developmental biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2008, Dr. Hohmann went on to complete her Pharm.D. at the University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2012. After spending several years in practice, Dr. Hohmann came to Auburn, completing her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the Harrison School of Pharmacy in 2019.

While at HSOP, she studied in the Health Outcomes Research and Policy option. Her doctoral dissertation, “Empowering community pharmacists to prevent opioid overdose deaths: development and implementation of a targeted naloxone training program,” focused on enhancing naloxone services implementation in community pharmacies in Alabama. The study was funded by Auburn University departmental support and grant number R36HS026669 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Dr. Hohmann is a Medication Therapy Management (MTM) certified pharmacist. She is also active within the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), and International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).

Auburn University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education; credits are recognized nationwide. The Universal Activity Number for this knowledge-based program is 0001-0000-24-029-H04-P/T and is intended for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The initial release date for this home-study program is July 15, 2024, and the intended expiration date is July 15, 2027.
