Aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease was once something that was recommended for all patients over 50. Over the last 10 years, a lot of evidence has emerged showing that aspirin is not as beneficial as we once thought it was. This presentation explores the current recommendations for aspirin for primary prevention and how we arrived at this conclusion.

Target Audience

This knowledge-based program is intended for pharmacists and will provide 1 hour of continuing education.

  • Identify medications that interact with aspirin therapy concerning efficacy and bleeding
  • Describe the risks and benefits of aspirin therapy when used for primary prevention
  • Summarize the evidence related to low-dose aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular and cancer-related endpoints
  • Determine when it is appropriate to START and STOP low-dose aspirin for primary prevention
