July 10, 2026

**The 8-hour program is for pharmacists only**

This program will provide 8 hours of CE credit over two days. The Friday portion of the program will be directed to those seeking their initial Consultant Certification from the Alabama Board of Pharmacy. Saturday’s programming will focus on disease states and medications that affect older adults. Registration for this course includes both Friday and Saturday programming, totaling 8 hours of CE credit. All 8 hours of programming are approved by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy for consultant credit hours and ACPE credit hours.

Friday, July 10 - 1 pm - 5 pm CT via Zoom

Saturday, July 11 - 8 am - 12 pm CT via Zoom

This CE program will cover the basics of caring for older adult patients and the rules and regulations governing care in long-term care facilities. Long-term care facilities require a consultant pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients residing there. In Alabama, the Board of Pharmacy requires licensure for consultant pharmacists. As part of this initial licensure, pharmacists must complete an initial course and an accompanying exam. This course will cover the basics required by ALBOP. After successful completion of the accompanying exam, pharmacist attendees will be eligible to apply for a consultant license from ALBOP.

For initial consultant certification, pharmacists should:

  1. Log in to the Gateway and select the green Pharmacist tile.
  2. Click the appropriate certification application button on the left (Preceptor, Parenteral, Consultant, or Nuclear).
  3. Complete the application and return to the Gateway homepage.
  4. Upload any required documents (proof of CE) in the checklist provided. They may upload a certificate or a copy of the NABP transcript.
  5. After submission, they should watch for an email notification once the application has been reviewed and approved.
  6. To print the certificate: go to the Pharmacist tile in the Gateway and an option to print the certificate will appear on the left once approved.

All certifications expire at the same time as pharmacist licenses (December 31 of even years). The option to renew a certification will be included in the regular pharmacist license renewal process.
