2026 LIVE @ LUNCH - From Quick Prompts to Custom Bots: Practical AI for Pharmacy

June 24, 2026

This interactive session demonstrates how artificial intelligence can transform pharmacy practice through both simple, ready-to-use applications and custom bot development. Participants will first explore low-stakes AI use cases that deliver immediate time savings—such as drafting communications, summarizing guidelines, and organizing information—requiring no technical skills or setup. The presentation then advances to hands-on demonstrations of building custom pharmacy bots for specialized tasks including clinical guideline comparison, patient education generation, drug information queries, and documentation assistance. Through real-world examples and audience participation, attendees will identify their own repetitive tasks and learn scalable AI solutions appropriate to their comfort level, from basic prompts to sophisticated custom bots. Emphasis is placed on practical implementation, safety considerations, and ethical use across all pharmacy practice settings.

The 2024 National Pharmacist Workforce Study reports that 73% of pharmacists rated their workload as “high” or “excessively high.”1 AI automation—from simple prompts to custom bots—can reduce time spent on routine tasks by 25-40%, which could free up time and allow pharmacists to focus on patient-centered care.2–4 Despite potential for AI to reduce time spent on routine pharmacy tasks, only about a third of respondents in a cross-sectional survey of pharmacy practice preceptors reported having used an AI chatbot.5 Factors predicting pharmacists’ use of AI included positive attitude towards technology, coworker use, and working in academia.5 This gap indicates a need for education that meets users where they are—starting with simple, accessible use cases and progressing to custom solutions for advanced users.

Target Audience

This application-based program is intended for Pharmacists (ACPE) and Pharmacy Technicians, Nurses (ABN).

Learning Objectives

1.    Identify tasks that could benefit from either simple AI assistance or custom bot development based on task complexity and frequency.
2.    Demonstrate the use of custom AI bots for pharmacy-specific applications.
3.    Recognize the appropriate scope of both simple AI use and custom bot applications within pharmacist and technician practice, identifying when tasks require pharmacist review or clinical judgment.
4.    Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety considerations.
