Continuous Glucose Monitoring: Control of Diabetes in an Evolving Therapeutic Landscape, Dr. Kristi Kelley

December 14, 2020

As the landscape of diabetic monitoring continues to evolve, healthcare practitioners and those working alongside them have a heightened need to
remain well-informed of the latest and most efficient blood-glucose monitoring methods. One such method is Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), a method heavily expounded upon in the Diabetic Technology section of the 2020 ADA Diabetes Guidelines. While research has pushed forward in this area, the progression to widespread daily use has been hindered by a lack of knowledge on the part of healthcare professionals. This CE addresses the growing need for greater understanding and practical expertise as it relates to a variety of novel CGM instruments and the many tangible benefits they can afford today’s patients in the primary care setting. This CE will be delivered in conjunction with Justin Weinstein, PharmD Candidate 2021.

Learning Objectives

  • Compare and contrast CGM with standard self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG), pointing out the distinctive advantages of CGM over current SMBG
  • Define the basic features and components of common CGM instruments
  • Explain distinctive features of common CGM devices for differentiation purposes
  • Recognize the fundamental criteria needed to obtain insurance coverage for CGM
  • Utilize unique, hypothetical, patient-specific casescenarios designed to identify patients for whom CGM is indicated
