COVID-19 Update Recorded Webinar

The COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented in modern times. New information is becoming available on a daily basis. The United States is approximately 9 months into the pandemic, and scientific understanding of the disease and treatment is changing frequently. This presentation will provide an update on the information learned about the disease up to this point in the pandemic, with a particular focus on available and upcoming treatment options and vaccines. It is very important for pharmacists, nurses, and pharmacy technicians to be up-to-date on this information, particularly since vaccine distribution will likely occur early 2021; of note, pharmacy technicians have now been approved to administer the vaccine, making it highly important for them to be knowledgeable as well.

Pharmacist and Nursing:

1. Describe the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States since March 2020

2. Summarize the current recommendations for the treatment of COVID-19

3. Characterize the type of vaccine products in phase III and IV clinical trials and compare and contrast the similarities and differences between each product

4. Examine the different therapies under investigation for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19

Spencer H. Durham, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCIDP is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and also serves as the Director of Alumni & Professional Affairs with the Harrison School of Pharmacy. In 2013, Dr. Durham joined the faculty of the Harrison School of Pharmacy, where he teaches in various courses throughout the curriculum. Additionally, Dr. Durham serves as the Director of Alumni and Professional Affairs under the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Outreach. Dr. Durham maintains a practice site at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System where he specializes in the area of infectious diseases.

 

Marilyn Bulloch, Pharm.D. BCPS, FCCM is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. She holds an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment with the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine and the University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences. Additionally, Dr. Bulloch serves as the Director of Strategic Operations at HSOP. Dr. Bulloch received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Rutgers University in 2007. She completed a post-graduate pharmacy practice residency at the University of Alabama- Birmingham Hospital and a specialty residency in critical care pharmacy at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia. Additionally, Dr. Bulloch completed a Faculty Scholars Program in geriatrics through the University of Alabama-Birmingham Geriatric Education Center in 2011.Dr. Bulloch began in her role as faculty in August 2009. Her current practice site is at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
