This program will discuss the current drugs of abuse in our regional area and the impact these substances have on individuals as well as community wide.

Target Audience

This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Learning Objectives

1) IDENTIFY THE TYPES OF SUBSTANCES BEING ABUSED CURRENTLY AND THEIR EFFECTS, INCLUDING METHODS OF USE.

2) EXPLORE AND EXAMINE CURRENT DRUG TRENDS AT THE STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS

3) DESCRIBE THE IMPACT OF OPIOIDS AND RECENT OVERDOSE NUMBERS IN THE STATE

4) ANALYZE TRENDS TOWARDS HARM REDUCTION MODELS OF TREATMENT

5) LIST AND DESCRIBE TWO DIFFERENT BEST PRACTICE THERAPY APPROACHES REGARDING COUNSELING CLIENTS WHO ARE ABUSING THESE EMERGING SUBSTANCES OF ABUSE

Whitney Cox, LPC, CAT, NCC

Whitney Cox is the A&D Clinical Coordinator for The Pines and Cady Hill Recovery Center, a residential treatment center for individuals struggling with and recovering from addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Whitney is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Addictions Therapist in the state of Mississippi, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Whitney received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Mississippi State University. Whitney has a strong belief in the need to treat underlying issues in addiction in order to provide fully encompassing treatment and successful outcomes in recovery

Auburn University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education; credits are recognized nationwide.
