Managing Antibiotic Allergies: A Guide for Pharmacists

Guntersville, AL US
May 10, 2022

Allergies to antibiotic agents are the most commonly reported medication allergies, with penicillin and other beta-lactams most commonly associated with allergies.  However, many reported antibiotic allergies are actually drug intolerances rather than true allergies.  Misidentification of antibiotic allergies has been associated with a number of untoward consequences, including increased adverse effects and the increased development of antimicrobial resistance.  This program will discuss how to correctly identify true antibiotic allergies, how to manage misidentification of allergies, and how to manage antibiotic allergies.
