Recovery Focused Practice: The Role of Medication in SUD Treatment

Birmingham, AL US
November 18, 2022

In 2018, an estimated 2 million people had an opioid use disorder. In an effort to reduce this epidemic, treatment is most effective when it is individualized to the patient. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT provides a comprehensive, individually tailored program of medication and behavioral therapy that address the needs of most patients.

This activity is supported by Project FREEDOM from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The views expressed in written conference materials or publications and by speakers and moderators do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the Department of Health and Human Services nor does mention of trade names, commercial practices, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
