Tenecteplase vs. Alteplase: Time to Make the Switch?

June 8, 2023

The presentation will begin with a discussion of the role of IV thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Next, I will discuss the different properties of alteplase (the only FDA-approved thrombolyticor AIS) vs. tenecteplase (off-label for AIS). Then, I will discuss the data regarding the use of tenecteplase for AIS. This data will include the statements made by the 2019 AHA Guidelines for the Early Management of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke as well as phase 2 and phase 3 trials of tenecteplase for AIS. Trials included in the presentation will be the NOR-TEST 1 & 2 trials, EXTEND-IA TNK trial, ACT trial, and TRACE-2 trial.
