Urine Drug Testing, Dr. Taylor Steuber

Urine drug testing is a valuable tool for providers who are caring for patients on opioid medications as well as other controlled substances. It is important for them to know differences among types of tests and how to interpret results based on patient-specific factors.

The Opioid Training Institute is a cooperative effort of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It is made possible by a grant provided by SAMHSA.

This knowledge-based program is intended for Pharmacists (ACPE) and Nurses (ABN). 

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the benefits of urine drug testing
  2. Identify different types of urine drug testing and their pros/cons
  3. Interpret results of a urine drug test including potential false positives
  4. Utilize results of urine drug test for clinical decision-making in a patient prescribed long-term opioid therapy

Taylor Steuber

PharmD, BCPS

 

Taylor Steuber, PharmD, BCPS is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Harrison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Steuber joined HSOP in August, 2016. He earned his Pharm.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2014. He went on to pursue a 24-month PGY-1/PGY-2 residency in pharmacotherapy with Indiana University and Butler University in Indianapolis.

He is an active member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). His practice and scholarship interests include infectious diseases, anticoagulation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

 Auburn University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education; credits are recognized nationwide.
