Updates in Stroke Management

Significant updates in the management of acute stroke have been implemented over the last 18 months - specifically DAPT in the acute setting and timing of initiation of OAC after a cardioembolic stroke.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the window of opportunity and role of early reperfusion therapy with intravenous fibrinolysis
  2. Analyze the role of dual antiplatelet therapy in the acute and chronic treatment of ischemic stroke
  3. Determine a safe and appropriate antithrombotic treatment option in the setting of atrial fibrillation
  4. Discuss the timing of anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention in the setting of atrial fibrillation

Jessica Starr

PharmD, FCCP, BCPS

 

Dr. Jessica Starr, PharmD, FCCP, BCPS is both an Associate Clinical Professor at Auburn University, Harrison School of Pharmacy and an active
clinician at Princeton Baptist Medical Center a community/teaching hospital located in Birmingham, Alabama. She is also the PGY2 Internal Medicine
Residency Program Director at Princeton Baptist. She received her PharmD degree from Auburn University and completed both a Pharmacy Practice
Residency and Specialty Residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her teaching, research, and patient care activities are broad in scope as her practice cares for a diverse patient population; however, her primary area of interest is with the cardiovascular disease states where she is well-published and has given national lectures at both ASHP and ACCP meetings.
