An interactive, 2-hour training session regarding PDMP Usage. Practical application across healthcare professionals with targeted content around common prescribing errors, account maintenance, understanding of prescriber, and patient reports.

Target Audience
This application-based program is intended for Pharmacists, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and Dentists.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss PDMP account maintenance activities
- Examine Prescriber Reports and MyRx Reports
- Conduct a multi-state query for an individual patient
- Review Alabama BME requirements for querying PDMP based on MME and LME
- Utilizing patient cases, interpret patient reports including NarxCare Risk Scores, Rx Graphs, Prescription Summary data, and individual prescription data
- Discuss the process for correcting common prescription errors, including the importance of the pharmacy PMP Clearinghouse email

Garrett Aikens, PharmD, BCACP is the Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Clinical Services at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. Dr. Aikens graduated from Auburn University’s Harrison College of Pharmacy in 2011 and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Montana and Community Medical Center in Missoula, Montana. After completing his residency, Dr. Aikens joined the Central Alabama VA Health System as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Primary Care from 2012-2016. In 2016 and 2017, Dr. Aikens helped create the VA Southeast Network's Academic Detailing Program providing services to multiple facilities throughout Alabama and Georgia. In addition to his clinical practice within the VA, Dr. Aikens practiced part time in community pharmacy at the Fairfax Drug Company in Valley, AL. In 2017, Dr. Aikens transitioned to his current position as the Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Clinical Services at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center where he serves on the P&T Committee and the VA Southeast Network Clinical Pharmacy Practice Council. Throughout his time within the Veterans Health Administration, Dr. Aikens has been directly involved in implementing and monitoring elements of the VHA Opioid Safety Initiative including utilizing the PDMP to improve patient safety.
