ForwardScreening for Depression in Community - Pharmacies: Tools to get you started - ENCORE - July 11, 2023
This webinar will offer information and tips to get started on implementing a depression screening service in pharmacies. Depression is a leading cause of disability in the world and pharmacists are in an ideal position to screen patients. This webinar gives advice and tips on overcoming barriers pharmacists face when implementing a depression screening service.
* Research Study Included* As part of this course, you are invited to participate in a research study titled, “Screening for Depression in Community Pharmacies: Tools to get you started” to help research pharmacists’ knowledge, attitudes, and intention towards implementing a depression screening service in rural pharmacies. The research team will use the information gathered in this study to inform the development of future training programs for rural pharmacists to increase access to depression screenings for community members. The study is being conducted by Brandy Davis, PharmD, under the direction of Kimberly Garza, PharmD, MBA, PhD, in the Auburn University Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy. You will be able to opt out of participation in the research portion of this course.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify patients who are eligible to be screened for depression.
2. Explain what the PHQ-9 is for and how to use it.
3. Determine whether a patient needs to be referred for mental health care.
4. Explain what steps to take if a person tests positive for depression.
5. List resources that can be used to refer patients for mental health care.

Brandy Davis was raised in a small Alabama town and has lived in the city of Auburn for the past 10 years while working on various degrees. Currently, she is focused on research to improve mental health outcomes in rural areas utilizing pharmacists for screening and referral services. She lives with five dogs and her fiancé and loves being able to follow her passions through research.
