Sterile Compounding Review for ALBOP Recertification 2024
This 2 hour live CE is on the topic of sterile compounding of nonhazardous and hazardous drugs and aims to fulfill the requirements for the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy for recertification for pharmacists involved in parenteral compounding.
This program has been approved by the ALBOP for continuing education didactic renewal requirements for pharmacists certified in sterile compounding. To fully comply with the ALBOP sterile compounding renewal requirements for both didactic and practical components, participants must complete their practical component outside of this program offering. Results from fingertip/ media fill tests will fulfill the practical component requirement.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Learning Objectives
Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians:
1) Understand how facility build contributes to the cleanliness of controlled environments
2) Distinguish between compounding Categories and assign appropriate BUD
3) Describe the basics of cleaning and disinfection of controlled environments
4) Know how to introduce components into controlled environments
5) Explain proper garbing and hand hygiene
6) Explain the different elements of the garbing process for sterile hazardous drug compounding
7) Describe the unique requirement for sterile compounding of hazardous drugs

Steve Milstead, PharmD, BCSCP works at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL as the Operational Supervisor over compounding of sterile and non-sterile drugs and as the coordinator over hazardous drugs and the Founder of Soigner Solutions. Steve is also serving a two-year appointment on the inaugural SCXP Pharmacy Stars Sterile Compounding Expert Panel. Steve received his Doctor of Pharmacy from McWhorter School of Pharmacy and is Board Certified in Sterile Compounding by BPS. He holds two additional degrees, from Sorbonne University in Paris, France and from Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
