The cornerstone of antimicrobial stewardship is the correct use of antimicrobial agents.  In order to use antimicrobial agents correctly, clinicians must be familiar with the drugs themselves, including their spectrum activity, mechanisms of action, adverse effect profile, and major drug interactions.
