The C.A.R.E.S. continuing education programs are designed for Alabama pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to provide an overview of Medicare and the roles of the Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) with the primary goal to help pharmacists and pharmacy staff effectively and efficiently assist Medicare beneficiaries. All of our CE programs are funded by the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) and the U.S. Administration for Community Living. They are made available to pharmacists and technicians in Alabama at no cost.

This presentation will cover the essentials of drug interactions (recognize, evaluate, mitigate) with specific focus on drug-drug and drug disease interactions in older adults (i.e. 65 years of age or older). Older adults are more likely than younger adults to take numerous concomitant medications and have multiple comorbidities, increasing their risk of drug interactions and subsequent adverse drug events.

Chronic coronary disease (CCD), formerly known as "stable ischemic heart disease," encompasses a diverse range of conditions, including both obstructive and nonobstructive coronary artery disease (CAD), with or without a history of myocardial infarction (MI) or revascularization. It also includes ischemic heart disease diagnosed solely through noninvasive testing and chronic angina syndromes arising from various underlying causes. Approximately 20 million people in the United States live with CCD, and it remains a leading cause of death.
