Researchers and clinicians differ on the distinctiveness of bipolar disorder (BPAD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) and there is concern about misdiagnosis due to symptom overlap despite general agreement that BPAD and BPD are distinct diagnostic entities. Treatment for these two disorders differ dramatically, and misdiagnosis can lead to struggles to treat BPD appropriately.
